Years ago, I never would have thought that self care was so important. The fact is though, if you don’t take care of you, then who will? These steps have helped me to keep balance in my life, and stay as sane as possible.

#1 Find your safe place.

Whether you enjoy baths, massages, coloring, meditating, music, etc. you need to find something that relaxes you and helps you to find peace, even if it’s just for a moment

#2 Ask for help and delegate.

Everyone always says it takes a village. So, take advantage of that, it’s okay to ask for help. It doesn’t mean you’re weak, it means you’re smart.

#3 Set daily goals.

Even if they are smaller goals set some type of goal each day, write it down and make sure it is in your face; utilize a whiteboard or post notes (there are fun ones out there)!

#4 Just say “No”.

Can you imagine always saying “yes” for the rest of your life? That sounds completely exhausting, and if you are always saying “yes,” who is taking care of you?! Start to realize what you can truly handle, and what you can’t.

#5 Develop some form of a routine.

Routine is key for a less stressed lifestyle. It could be a general routine or as specific as you want it. However, everyone in the household needs to work together as a team.


* Obviously this will not always be perfect, life takes over in crazy ways. But, if you try your best to always come back to the self care process, life has a funny way of working out.
